COUNTDOWN UNTIL THE NEXT MEETING:

August Mid Winter Update

BIG BEN CONFIRM FOR 2010 - 2011

There has been quite a bit happening with Brad Mosen Motorsport in the past month or so. The new King Chassis will be completed this week as Justin completes the final touches to it. We had a bit of a hold up waiting for the Butler Seat to arrive from the US, and it was important to have Brad fitted to the car. This effects the position of the A Frame at the rear of the cocpit, and it's easier to wait so that when the car is powder coated, it is finished ready for assembly.
The parts for the all new car are here, and we will begin to assemble the car from next week. The engine is in Australia with Barry Graham and it will be rebuilt ready for the season ahead. The Sponsorship is finally sorted, as I stated in my previous update, we confirmed both Citizen Watches and Dickies Clothing. Today we have had confirmation that Big Ben will be the Naming Rights Sponsor for the race car and team for the 2010/2011 Season. Big Ben are strong supporters of a number of race cars, and they felt that Brad had done an exceptional job for them last year.
I will update the Race Schedule on this site as soon as we have confirmed a couple of meetings. We plan to be part of the National Midget Car Series again this year, race at Western Springs and contest all the Speedway NZ titles. Our plan to is to travel a bit in addition to these meetings so keep an eye on the schedule to see if we are racing at your local track.
Brad is now ready to design the graphics for the race car, so I will post this here as soon as it's ready.
More next month.

Off Season Update - July
_MG_7332Not much has been happening with the off season preparations, although we are about to get underway with the assembly of the new car. We had all the parts arrive, and this year we have replaced all the bits. This is great as we now have all the bits we need to compete at the level required. The chassis will be finished at the end of July and then we will set about putting this car together.
Pleased to have two key partners back with Brad Mosen Motorsport for the season ahead. Citizen Watches have elected to return for their second year, and the team at Dickies return for their fifth year. I will have the main sponsor signed off by the end of next week.
This year we have an Amercian company buiding a full replica model of next season car. Being the first ever NZ Midget available, this has put a bit of pressure on as they need to get underway in our off season to have the models ready when our season starts. They will be available on line, and we are working hard to have them here for sale in NZ.
I will post a design as soon as we have it ready so you can get an idea as to what the new car should look like. It will be carbon fibre again so the main body colour is black.
Good to hear the other night that the National Midget Car Series is good to go. There will be a number of events around the North Island which is great to get away and race at these other tracks. With the 12 shows at WS, the 8 rounds with the NMCS, two SNZ Championship events, we have a good season ahead.
A number of people have asked if Brad will race in Australia again next season, we do have plans to return there, however this will be restricted to the Australian Title, and the three 50 lap events at the end of the season. We may get a couple under our belt before our season starts here, but in saying that, our prime commitment is to race here.

'Out with the Old' and 'In with the New'
Sues_Photos_008With the 2009 Aggressor/ Mopar heading to Sydney it has been good news to know that we have next year organised so soon after the end of the 09/10 season.
Phil Jerreries has bought the #13 Aggressor/Mopar and intends running it at Parramatta. He has raced there before, he has recently had a couple of years off and he wanted to go back with a car that could do the job for him. This car was sold with all the bits needed to race anywhere. So it leaves for Australia before the end of June.
2010/2011 is a season we are really looking forward to. The new car purchased for the next season will be jointly owned by Grant & Shirley Wilks along with Brett Morris of Seamount Enterprises.
(Loading Midget onto Pallet...#37 is Phils number so Brad put these on for him)

Brett was keen to be part of this team, in purchasing the new car that Brad wanted and to ensure that everything was brand new. Brett is a regular at Western Springs and recently has been a huge part of the Barry Butterworth Classic Event held at Waikaraka Park.
Brad is thrilled to have the support of the new owners of the new car.
Everything is well ahead of schedule, with the new gear due to arrive this month.
To date we have run the Aggressor Chassis here in NZ, and more recently the Spike in Australia. Brad has put a lot of thought into the type of car he wants to race next season, and we have ordered a 'King Chassis', which will be designed specifically for him.
We welcome a new crew member for the season ahead, Joey Farrow who was part of Tony Fabish's team was keen to stay involved with Speedway one way or another. It will be great to have another guy with petrol running through his veins around. I will keep the site up to date as the off season goes, and will put up the odd photo of the build.

Jack Berry Racing - Australia

pcr1may10_070bmBrad raced at Archerfield in Brisbane last weekend which was our final meeting in Australia. This meeting was the American Racer 50 Lap Event, there were about 35 cars entered which included the top Australian drivers, along with 4 Kiwis. It was the first time I had seen Archerfield and it was interesting to see how the locals dealt with the rough surface. In both turns there was a smooth line on the pole line and another hard up against the wall. The rest was a mine field of huge ruts and corrugations. The field was split into three groups and each group did Hot Laps back to back. Brendon Palmer had a big crash having caught a cars wheel when he attempted to pass, so everyone was being a bit cautious.
Brad ran in heat 3 and I was hoping the track had settled, this wasn't the case so Brad ran the  line on the bottom starting from Grid 10. He finished 3rd which was a good start. His second heat had him start from Pole and he lead the race until the final lap when Mark brown got up underneath him to take the win.
The Feature had an inversion which put Brad on Grid 4. Brad moved into second spot in a lap and sat behind the leader with a long way to go. Michael Pickens came through on lap 7 and managed to get the inside line, they went into Turn 3 side by side. Brad got on the gas and the right rear caught a rut and up and over she went.
So that was it, so we stood and watched the rest of the race. With 24 starters, there were 6 or 7 finishers. The track played a part in the final results as a number of fast cars/drivers stood on the infield watching. Congratulations to Nathan Smee who took the win having lead the last 20 or so laps.
A big thanks to Jack and his family for providing the car and all the other benefits in Australia. Having travelled to Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney, Toowoomba and Brisbane this was a great way to finish the racing season. Nothing was too much trouble for Jack, he just loves his racing and he sees this as a way of putting back along with his passion to build Midget Car racing in Brisbane. Brett and Megan were great, organising flights, accommodation, and working in the Pit was really appreciated. Pedro, Tim and Debbie are now family, these guys drive through the night to get to tracks on time, they never stop helping and those late night suppers are second to none.
Looking back, Brad set a new track record at Parramatta, won the Super Series Round at Adelaide, qualified 2nd in the Australian Championship Title and set the benchmark for altitude at Parramatta.
We have sold our car with the Mopar engine in it to Phil Jefferies in Sydney and we are due to send it to him in a couple of weeks. The plan next year is to build a new car from the ground up. Everything will be new so we shouldn't have any gear failure issues next season. Our plan is to remain here in New Zealand and run at all the Western Springs meetings along with the National Midget Car Series.
So for now we wrap up 2009/2010 and look forward to next season.
The TV3 Documentary of the Kiwis' in Chili Bowl is on the 6th June, should be good to see first hand how it went earlier this year.
Thanks to everyone who sent the hundreds of emails, and messages of support for Brad over the season.
Greg
