Having had a run of issues at Western Springs, we took the car to another track to see if we could find what was causing the engine to shut down. We had all thought the problem was fuel, however when we heard it run at speed by itself we found the problem which turned out to be electrical.

So off to Gisborne we went, hoping we had sorted the car.Friday Night was an opportunity to practice on the very banked track. There were only 5 Midgets that had gone early to take advantage of this session. The car was good and Brad liked the track.About 2am the next morning we decided that if they had sold out of Heineken then we would go home. Everyone had a good night with plenty of humour being chucked around. With the driver testing for his USA tour and the sweatshirt out of the “Broke Back” movie we headed to bed.We had 14 Midgets arrive for the Championship and they were all good ones. Graeme Standring and Brad were the only 2 drivers to improve there starting position in the 2 heat races. So the 20 lap Feature had these 2 on the front row. Brad took the early lead and that’s how it ran for 18 laps. Into lapped traffic and the cunning old bugger took the one and only shot he got and Graeme took the lead to finish 1^st. Brad finished 2^nd with Shaun Insley home in 3^rd.The track was almost as good as the people running the Event. The place was immaculate and they couldn’t have done anything better over the weekend.We would be very keen to return there, and seems there is talk of it now being included in the National Series North Island Tour next year.The 2 big shows are upon us now as we head toward the close of the year. The NZ Champs at home which is also a Round of the national Series, and then Final Night a bit later which concludes the National Series.
