NZ Midget Championships - Huntly
It was interesting to run the NZ Champs before Xmas, seemed like the first time ever for us, and it wasn't such a bad thing. I guess if you had won the thing earlier that year it might have been different. Good to see so many Midget cars turn up, clearly there is a strong presence around the country with cars from as far south as Christchurch. Also good to see that there were no Internationals there. I know that if you have run the 3 shows before hand you can enter, and we seem to do it to the Australians all the time, however I believe this event should be restricted to locals only. I assure you that if the prize-money ever gets up there we will see heaps of them here. I think having them here for the International Series is great as the drivers and fans love the racing. Huntly can be very proud of themselves, they put on a fantastic track both nights. These guys are a credit to themselves, we liked it so much we continue to support this track and will do again this weekend at the 40 lapper. The deal was you had to do 4 million laps over 2 days and hope that you were in the lead when the last flag dropped. We did all we needed to on the Friday Qualifier putting Brad into the 16 that went straight through. Then Saturday night Brad again didn't put a foot wrong which had him start with Pickens and Hickman, all were within 1 point. Brad made one mistake, and it was in a place where you don't get to have another go. I sat watching this Final unfold and said to myself that when these two get together they never both finish. Either MP or Brad don't make the line, and then over Brad goes. Anyway, it was a great weekend of racing and well done to MP, he deserves to have the #1 on his car. We are all looking forward to the International Series, I believe we have the entire deal with the 88 car sorted, and we are now ready to have the 'walking do the talking' now. We return to Huntly this weekend, and then its all on at home. Have a great xmas.........................Greg.
