Springs National Series - Round 4

The points are mounting for a number of drivers all wanting to make the top 6 spots to be named as part of the New Zealand Midget Team. I now watch all the drivers making every effort to finish the heat races so

they get at least a top 8 grid for the Feature, as trying to come from the rear of the field to get onto that podium is really hard. Saturday Night was always going to be a challenge with the weather. Full credit to all the drivers and promotion who wouldn’t give up on that track. Finally the rain got the better of everyone and it was postponed until Sunday. I think we all knew that given the noise restraints on the grader we were all heading for a slick track Feature Race. The International Sprint car racing was really exciting to watch, although I was more interested in what they were doing to the track surface towards the end of the night. Brad had finished both Heat Races and our grid was in the top 8 spots, in 6th. I was uneasy with the setup we had put onto the car and it showed in the race. Brad held his spot and got a couple of passes in, but we needed to move up through the field to score the big points. Brad finished 8th in the shorten race.
The bottom line was this was the first Feature Event this season including Napier that he had not had a podium finish. Having been reminded as to how slick and dry “The Springs” can get we will not make that mistake again.
The points table sees Michael Pickens on top, with Brad in second ahead of Bryce Townsend. We can still catch Michael for the lead over the next few meetings, so we are very focused on that for now. The 4th back to the 8th spot is very close and Boxing Day should see the NZ team really start to take shape.....
Next race meeting for Brad is Christchurch: Ruapuna for the International Sprint car Event.
